Saturday Police 47-10 UR-CASS APR 43-23 St Aloys

Record five-time national handball league champions Police thrashed University of Rwanda’s College of Arts and Social Science (UR-CASS) 47-10 on Saturday to stay top of the league table standings.

Emmanuel Kabange scored eight goals while Jean Baptiste Habimana and Fils Haruna Bizimana netted six goals each to guide the law enforcers to their third consecutive win, giving them a maximum six points.

It was the third day of the season as Police look to correct last season’s mistakes when they lost the title to archrivals APR on the final day.

"We have done it before and we can even do it now to finish the season unbeaten; you can say it’s still early with just three games played and 17 matches to play, but that’s our focus,” said Police coach Sr. Sgt. Dismas Turatsinze.

The international handball federation revised some of its rules with a win now going for two points from three points previously. A draw attracts a single point and the same goes for the loser, who also gets one point.

Police beat College de Gisenyi 47-34 and College ADEGI 42-34 on day one and day two, respectively.

The two teams also have five points each while APR, who defeated St Aloys Rwamagana 43-23 on Saturday, complete the top four.

Police won the league in 2014 and 2015 with an unbeaten record. This season, Police have already won one trophy-- Heroes Day Cup.
