Rwanda and APR FC forward Ernest Sugira has undergone successful operation on his left leg in India, which will sideline him for another three months.

The 27-year old striker was operated on Tuesday afternoon at Medanta the Medacity hospital in New Delhi.

The former AS Kigali goal-machine suffered a fractured left-leg injury last October during a training session with Amavubi at Kigali Stadium where the national team was preparing for the CHAN finals qualifier against Ugandan Cranes.

After the n injury, he was rushed to King Faisal Hospital where he underwent an operation but his recovery took longer than expected and was suggested to go to India for specialized medical treatment, to save his footballing career.

Talking to Times Sport from India on Wednesday afternoon, Sugira said the operation was successful and that he was already feeling well, "Doctors are closely following my recovery here and have promised I will be ready to play again within three months. I hope everything goes well.”

"It’s been a tough six months on the sidelines. I hope to be back soon and help my team for the rest of the season,” noted the ex-AS Muhanga starlet.

He started his career at a young age at AS Muhanga before joining APR in 2013. After one season, he was released by the club and joined AS Kigali, where he played for two seasons before his record US$120,000 transfer to DR Congo side AS Vita Club in February of 2016.

Sugira made his debut international debut with Amavubi in September 2013 and scored his first international goal against Mozambique in 2015. He has since received a total 19 caps, scoring 8 goals, including 3 goals at the 2016 African Nations Championships in Rwanda.
