Police in Kicukiro are holding three people in connection with the alleged murder of a one-day baby girl, whose body was later dumped in the toilet.

The suspects were identified as Josiane Nibarere 21, Alice Iribagiza 27, and Innocent Nsengiyumva 34, all residents of Nyenyeri cell, Kimihurura Sector in Gasabo District.

"I have been seeing the pregnant girl all along but to my surprise, yesterday I was told that the girl was not pregnant and that’s how I informed local authorities and the matter was reported to police who removed the body from the toilet,” said Pierre Munyeshyaka, a member of the  local defense force said.

Nibarere who was Iribagiza’s house girl and was also serving as a barmaid on Monday morning gave birth to the baby girl and later conspired with the former (Iribagiza) and her boyfriend Nsengiyumva to take the life of the baby.

The police are still investigating to ascertain the reason why the trio would conspire in taking the life of the innocent baby.

Nibarere, confesses to having had a hand in taking the life of her infant claiming to have been advised by her employer Iribagiza and Nsegiyumva to kill the baby so that she remains a motherless girl in order to safeguard her employment.

An official from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at the crime scene said that the proper reason for the gruesome murder was not yet clear by press time.

However, residents at the scene alleged that Iribagiza’s brother who is officially married had impregnated the girl, and the family was trying to it cover up.
