RWANDA women’s national basketball league starts on Saturday with one game between The Hoops Rwanda and the Under-18 National Team at Amahoro Indoor Stadium at 4pm.

The women’s league will be contested by six teams, namely; reigning champions APR, Ubumwe, The Hoops Rwanda, IPRC-South, Under-18 National Team and Musanze-based debutants Regina Pacis.

The youthful U18 national team was registered to play in the league so as to keep the players in competition mood ahead of the FIBA Africa Zone 5 Championship which will be played in May—this competition will also serve as regional qualifiers for African Basketball Championships.

League debutant, Regina Pacis, are a team made up of high school players.

After Saturday’s league opener, action will continue on Sunday when former champions Ubumwe will play away to Regina Pacis in Musanze.

APR are the defending champions and will represent the country at the 2018 FIBA Africa Zone V Club Championships.
