Up to 99.27 per cent of candidates who sat the 2017 Teacher Training Centres (TTC) national exams passed.

The pass rate slightly decreased by 0.5 per cent compared to the previous year when 99.8 per cent of candidates passed.

The general pass rate for TTC 2017 examinations is 99.2 per cent, with 2987 out of 3009 teacher trainees attaining the mark, according to the results released yesterday by the Ministry of Education.

A total of 3036 candidates from 16 TTCs in the country registered for examinations last year, but 3009 (99.1 per cent) sat the papers. Some 1753 (58.3 per cent) were girls.

Releasing the results, Isaac Munyakazi, the Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education, said: "It’s a good pass rate, these are schools that prepare our future teachers. They performed quite well.”

Five of eleven best performers in the TTC examinations were female.

TTCs are under University of Rwanda’s College of Education.

TTC performances have been improving over the years, from 87.5 per cent in 2014, to 99 per cent in 2015 and 99.82 per cent in 2016.

Last year, candidates sat exams in four course units; Teaching Modern Languages, Teaching Science and Mathematics, Teaching Social Studies, and Early Childhood Development.

It was the second year UR’s College of Education certified candidates who sat Early Childhood Education examinations.
