Top teams gear up for Kayumba memorial tourney

ALL ROADS this weekend lead to Huye District for the annual Father Emmanuel Kayumba memorial volleyball tournament at Group Scolaire de Butare (Indatwa n’Inkesha School). The two-day tournament, running Saturday and Sunday has attracted over 40 teams.

ALL ROADS this weekend lead to Huye District for the annual Father Emmanuel Kayumba memorial volleyball tournament at Group Scolaire de Butare (Indatwa n’Inkesha School). The two-day tournament, running Saturday and Sunday has attracted over 40 teams. 

Over 40 teams have confirmed to part of the event include, all nine teams compete in first division in men and six in women and four of veterans.

In top teams include the first division team which are 10, second division in men’s category 8, women 5 veterans 7 and 14 for beach volleyball and one team from Burundi named Amicale Volleyball Club.

The tournament is held in memory of Kayumba who passed away in 2009. He was instrumental in the growth of volleyball in Group Scolaire de Butare.

Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) and University of Tourism Technology and Business Studies (UTB) have confirmed their participation in the tournament.

Kirehe and Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) are the champions of the 2017 memorial tournament in the men and women categories, respectively.

Kirehe thrashed debutants University of Tourism Technology and Business Studies (UTB) 3-0 (25-22, 25-21 and 25-20), while RRA retained the title after defeating Ruhango Volleyball Club 3-0 (25-21, 25-18 and 25-15).
