In a groundbreaking move, SKOL Brewery Ltd, a pioneer in introducing to the Rwandan market the first water packed in returnable glass bottles, Virunga Water, has sealed a significant partnership with TotalEnergies, marking a shift towards sustainable practices through the use of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) within its operations.

The signing ceremony took place during a visit on Monday, February 26 to SKOL Brewery Ltd by Jean Philippe Torres – Senior Vice President TotalEnergies Marketing Africa.

Phillipe was together with his team, including Olagoke ALUKO – Executive Vice President East & Central Africa, Ronan MASSERON - Country Chair, and Marc Renaud – Managing Director TotalEnergies Marketing Rwanda Ltd.

The delegation was accompanied by the Rwanda Development Board CEO, Francis Gatare, and his team, who were welcomed by the SKOL Brewery Ltd team led by its General Manager Eric Gilson.

The focus of this collaboration is a comprehensive LPG supply contract, primarily catering to the needs of forklifts and boilers at the SKOL Brewery facility.

The move is part of SKOL's commitment to reducing its environmental impact and fostering a greener, more sustainable manufacturing process.

The commitment is aligned with Rwanda’s ambitious climate action agenda that features a 38 per cent reduction of greenhouse gas emissions compared to business as usual by 2030, and a vision to be a climate resilient and carbon neutral economy by 2050.

Rwanda’s 38 per cent reduction of emissions target is equivalent to a reduction of 4.6 million tonnes of carbon emissions by 2030.

The move by SKOL Brewery is not only a proactive step in environmental conservation but also aligns with future regulatory changes and environmental standards, anticipating the eventual phasing out of Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO) for cleaner energy sources.

The benefits extend beyond environmental impact, as the adoption of LPG for forklifts allows for indoor usage, enhanced consumption control, and other operational advantages.

"SKOL Brewery remains dedicated to driving positive change, fostering sustainability, and leading the way in responsible business practices within the community,” reads part of the statement.
