Match summary

Sierra Leone 57/10 (11.5 overs) vs Rwanda 58/0 (5.5 overs)

Rwanda won by 10 wickets (85 balls left)

Opening bowler Rosine Irera shone with the ball picking four wickets in 3.5 overs for just 13 runs as Rwanda beat Sierra Leone by 10 wickets at the ongoing Nigeria Invitational Women T20 tournament in Lagos.

Building on the momentum from the opening day victory against Tanzania on Sunday, Leornad Nhamburo's side has all eyes set on winning the tournament for the second time after claiming the 2022 title.

Sierra Leone won the toss and chose to bat, but they might have regretted that decision after they were bowled out for just 57 runs in 11.5 overs.

Off-spinner Irera (3.5-13-4) and Josiane Nyirankundineza (3-13-2) put the west African side's batting order on the sword. Jane Newland 13 runs of 17 balls and Zainab Kamara 12(12) managed double figures.

In reply, Merveille Uwase 31(19), and Gisele Ishimwe 26(16), in just 5.5 overs, led to Rwanda to probably the easiest victory they will ever get in international cricket.

Two wins in as many games put Rwanda at the top of the four-team tournament on four points, two clear of both Tanzania and Nigeria, while Sierra Leone are pointless, after losing two games.

The eight-day competition will continue Wednesday when hosts Nigeria take on in-form Rwanda whereas Sierra Leone face Tanzania.

Rwanda are using the Nigeria Invitational tournament to prepare for the All-Africa Games that will be staged on the Ghanaian capital Accra from March 7-14.
