A total of 17 goals were scored across all 10 matches on match day 22 of the 2023/24 Primus National League.

Musanze FC, AS Kigali and APR FC were the only teams which won away from home while the latter’s victory in Huye meant the title are now theirs to lose.

Times Sport takes a look at five things we learnt from the weekend matches.

Mashami’s job hangs by a thread

Vincent Mashami’s days at Police FC might be numbered after Saturday’s 1-0 loss to AS Kigali extended their winless streak to six straight league games. In fact, the team has not won a single game since the start of the second round of the league campaign.

Police FC spent huge sums of money in the June 2023 transfer window but their title race ended with the first round as they now trail then title rivals APR FC by 16 points.

Currently, there is no telepathy in their play and they lack the needed confidence. Mashami could be sacked if they fail to win their next league game against another struggling side in Kiyovu SC on March 1.

Only a miracle will save Etoile

The newly-promoted topflight side remains rooted at the bottom of the league table with 13 points from 22 games, nine points to the relegation safety.

Etoile signed striker Sadick Sulley expecting much from him in their revival bid but their performance is going from bad to worse as they keep losing game after game.

Etoile last weekend suffered a 2-0 loss at the hands of rivals Muhazi United in the Ngoma derby. Unless they win their next couple of games and pray that teams like Etincelles, Bugesera FC and Gorilla FC drop points, it could soon be over for them.

Rayon looking far from convincing

Rayon Sports’ form has been patchy despite winning four straight league games before their shock defeat to Musanze on Friday.

The Blues needed an 89th minute goal by skipper Kevin Muhire to beat relegation bound Etoile de l'Est and in week 22 but Musanze's test proved otherwise as they traveled to Kigali to dent their title race with a shock 1-0 win, a result that put Rayon's title race into serious jeopardy.

It is very clear that the club’s new players need time to adapt as they continue to struggle to adapt to life under new head coach Julien Mette.

Another football masterclass from Shaiboub in Huye

The Sudanese star was arguably the best player on the pitch against Mukura VS. He opened the scoring with a fine finish in the 22nd minute as his side went on to win 2-0.

Shaiboub has been a standout player for Thierry Froger especially in the second round of the season and his form has played an impact to the club’s unbeaten run.

The midfielder, who is having his debut season at APR FC, will be certainly vital if his side is to maintain their momentum and finish the league campaign unbeaten.

Sunrise FC's two phases

Sunrise FC came from two goals down to even the score at 2-2 against Etincelles at Umuganda Stadium on Sunday.

Jackson Mayanja’s side, on one hand, has a leaky defense which conceded stupid goals but, on the other hand, their attack has always been vibrant. If they can solve their defensive problems, they can finish the season on high.
