The management of Rwanda Medical Association (BUFMAR) on Tuesday donated Rwf10 million to Agaciro Development Fund to support the country’s self-reliance effort.

The money was raised by staff and management.

The association is involved in the purchase and distribution of pharmaceuticals.

Handing over the donation, Ernest Rwagasana, the Director General of BUFMAR, said they are committed and proud to be part of Rwanda’s continued efforts towards self-reliant- based development.

He said, "We came here [at AgDF] feeling that it is every Rwandan’s responsibility to support the Fund.”

Jack Kayonga, the Fund’s Chief Executive Officer, thanked the association for the donation, calling for more individuals and institutions to do the same.

Agaciro Development Fund was initiated in 2012 to support government’s efforts to increase socio-economic growth and stability against unpredictable eexternal shocks, while improving Rwanda’s financial autonomy.

So far, AgDF has accumulated Rwf47 billion, of which Rwf 8 billion is from profit, and Rwf39 billion contributed by different individuals, friends of Rwanda and the government itself.

70 per cent of the amount is lent to banks, targeting a profit of around 10 per cent in a year.
