Rwanda national team head coach Antoine Hey has admitted that he is under pressure to win the last Group C game against Libya to reach the quarter-finals of the ongoing African Nations Championship (CHAN) on Tuesday night at Stade de Batouta in Tangier, Morocco. The German tactician on Friday guided his team to a 1-0 victory over Equatorial Guinea, thanks to Thierry Manzi’s goal, which followed a goalless draw against Nigeria, which gave them four points.

However, Amavubi, despite being second in the table, level on points with Nigeria, will need to avoid defeat against Libya in order to reach the last eight of Africa’s second biggest international football competition for second time in in a row.

Hey’s team need a win or draw to reach the knockout round, but Nigeria are favourites to beat Equatorial Guinea in the other match in Agadir —both matches will be played simultaneously, kick-off at 9pm (CAT).

"We have to be aggressive for this game in order to win; we played well in the last two games and we have to keep the same spirit and even improve in the last game. We need to work even harder than we did in the last two games,” Hey said.

He noted that: "It is the game we have to give everything in order to reach our target. Libya is a strong team with good players, it will be a very competitive game, we have to be 100% ready but I believe my players will do what is required.” Hey admitted that everyone in the team knows the importance of the game and they are not thinking about anything else but to beat Libya, which he says, "will bring happiness to every Rwandan.”

Hey said all players are available for the crucial game apart from striker Justin Mico, who is still recovering from the injury (back strain) he suffered against Nigeria in the opening game. "We want to beat Libya to finish at the top of the table which will give us a chance to stay in Tangier where we have been playing the group matches,” the former Kenya coach noted.

Libya suffered a 1-0 defeat to Nigeria in their second group game which was played in Tangier on Friday.

The defeat left the Mediterranean Knights, under the guidance of Omar Al Marymi, third in Group C standings with three points from two games. The winner between Rwanda and Libya will qualify for the quarter-finals.

Guinea exit 2018 Chan with a win

Ibrahim Sankhon scored the only goal of the game in the 15th minute as Guinea clinched a narrow 1-0 win over Mauritania at the Stade de Marrakech in Marrakech on Sunday evening.

Victory, though, comes as a small reward for the Syli Nationale who along with their opponents exit the 2018 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in the group stages.

Guinea finished third in Group A, four points off Morocco and Sudan while Mauritania were condemned to the wooden spoon following three straight defeats.

Morocco advance into the knockout stages as Group A winners - on goal difference - following their 0-0 draw with Sudan at the same time in Casablanca. The Falcons of Jediane join the Atlas Lions in the quarterfinals.
