The youngest DJ in town!

Chilling DJ Kagz all relaxed during the interview.

He is definitely Kigali’s youngest DJ, but that doesn’t stop him from playing music in Kigali’s most happening place, B-Club. I sat him down to get an insight about his life and how he made it at such an early age.

At only 19, Frank Kagame, also called DJ kagz is one of the machine spinners at B-Club located in Gaculiro.  And for your own information, he did not start his career here. I first came across him in 2006 while he did his thing at the MTN mall. Then he became a major figure in most of the home parties around Kigali.

‘I easily managed to create a following, because of the love I have for Music, and I am growing every other day,’ he says of his rise.

However, we cannot rely on his ‘love for music’ as the only factor behind his rise to fame. This is because he has a brother who is among the very best DJs in Rwanda. This is none other than Gwiza James a.k.a. DJ Focus.

‘I took up from my big brother because I was always besides him during his work,’ he recalls. Then DJ Focus was spinning at MTN Mall during its music hey days.

‘Whenever he had somewhere else to work, he left me to cover for him because I had mastered the game,’ DJ Kagz muses.

Despite the fact that all looks good at the moment, DJ Kagz has other dreams that he thinks will make him the true man he’ wanna be’.

He contemplates, ‘I want to be a more professional DJ and an accomplished International musician and Producer. I think I will need to take up studies about these, if I’m going to make it further.’

Certainly, the short time he has been into djying has taught him many lessons that he’s got a word of advice for his mates. He tells them to ‘love what you are doing, because at the end of the day your results will determine who you are because with love all things are possible.’

So, how is it going for him? Is the money coming? How is the industry doing? He replies, ‘I’m enjoying what I’m doing, that’s what matters in every job and also determines your bargain line.

The industry is coming up, what we need is togetherness and supporting one another’. Being a late night worker, you would not expect him to have a sounding private life.

However, I’m sad to reveal that he is not searching at all, ‘I have a girl friend I’m so much in love with, when time comes, I hope I will walk down the aisle with her’ he confides.
