Volleyball: Father Kayumba memorial tourney set for Feb.

The annual Emmanuel Kayumba memorial volleyball tournament is set for February 17-18 at Group Scolaire de Butare (Indatwa n’Inkesha School) courts, in Huye. According to Father Celestin Rwirangira, the head teacher of former Groupe Scolaire de Butare, the annual tournament will attract all league teams in the men and women categories, and invitations have been sent to Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

The annual Emmanuel Kayumba memorial volleyball tournament is set for February 17-18 at Group Scolaire de Butare (Indatwa n’Inkesha School) courts, in Huye.

According to Father Celestin Rwirangira, the head teacher of former Groupe Scolaire de Butare, the annual tournament will attract all league teams in the men and women categories, and invitations have been sent to Burundi, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

The tournament is held in memory of Kayumba who passed away in 2009. He was instrumental in the growth of volleyball in Group Scolaire de Butare.

"We have invited regional teams, but we are waiting for the confirmation,” Father Rwirangira said.

Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) and University of Tourism Technology and Business Studies (UTB) have confirmed their participation in the tournament.

Kirehe and Rwanda Revenue Authority (RRA) are the champions of the 2017 memorial tournament in the men and women categories, respectively.

Kirehe thrashed debutants University of Tourism Technology and Business Studies (UTB) 3-0 (25-22, 25-21 and 25-20), while RRA retained the title after defeating Ruhango Volleyball Club 3-0 (25-21, 25-18 and 25-15).
