APR 108-80 Al Wakrah

Rwanda Basketball League (RBL) champions APR Basketball Club, on Thursday, February 22, beat Qatari side Al Wakrah 108-80 in a friendly match.

Aimed at preparing APR for the upcoming the Basketball Africa League (BAL) 2024, the game took place in Doha, Qatar where the team is currently holding a training camp.

In May, APR will for the first time participate in the BAL, an elite African basketball club competition backed by the NBA.

New American player Dario Hunt (L) had a good game for APR, scoring 11 points in the first half.

Al Wakrah plays in the Qatari topflight league.

The game against them is one of the five that APR hopes to play in the middle-east nation this month.

APR put up a good performance, leading the game in all the four quarters, thanks to team work but also individual brilliance of players like Adonis Filer who scored 19 points while Michael Dixon added 17.

"We are happy with the performance so far; this is working well. Players are doing better and all in all we are giving our best in everything we are doing. We are looking forward to the game against Al Rayyan and we hope to get positive results to build on,” said APR’s head coach Mazen Trakh after the game.

On February 24, APR will play its second game against Al Rayyan.

For BAL 2024, APR was placed in the Sahara Conference of BAL which will play from May 4-12 in Dakar, Senegal. The conference also comprises Tunisia’s US Monastir, AS Douanes of Senegal and Nigerian Champions Rivers Hoopers.
