National basketball league title contenders IPRC-South are in buoyant mood going into the weekend double-header against United Generation Basketball Club and APR, optimistic about their chances of taking maximum points.

The 2016 play-off champions face UGB on Saturday at Amahoro Indoor Stadium before returning to the same court to play against seven-time league champions APR.

Should the Huye-based side win both games, they will move level up with defending champions Rwanda Energy Group (REG) on a 4:1 win ratio, with 9 points from 5 games.

REG have lost one game against Patriots while IPRC-South’s only defeat his season was at the hands of REG. A win carries two points, while the losing team gets one point.

"After the defeat against REG, we look forward to bouncing back this weekend. The two games mean a lot to our league title aspirations, both are must-win games for us,” IPRC-South head coach Charles Mushumba told Saturday Sport.

He added that, "Players have trained well, and are mentally and physically fit. We will do everything possible to win both matches. But it won’t come easy because UGB and APR are two good teams.”

IPRC-South started the season well, beating former champions Espoir on the opening day and thrashing Rusizi in the second game but stumbled against REG a fortnight ago.

In another game scheduled for today, 2015 champions Espoir will host struggling Rusizi at Amahoro Indoor Stadium. It starts at 11am.
