Flight prices within Africa is a great mystery

For instance, what explains why it is sometimes cheaper to fly from Kigali to Dubai than to Nairobi? Or cheaper to fly to Amsterdam than Bamako? And with crazy connections to boot! It’s a total nightmare and surely people must have noticed this mess already. This must be one of our great mysteries on this continent.

RE: "African airlines wait for open skies” (The New Times, December 27). I blame the delay on African governments, and by extension, gullible voters. No wonder most so-called ‘national airlines’ are having a hard time today. Nobody really wins here with excessive regulation.

For instance, what explains why it is sometimes cheaper to fly from Kigali to Dubai than to Nairobi? Or cheaper to fly to Amsterdam than Bamako? And with crazy connections to boot! It’s a total nightmare and surely people must have noticed this mess already. This must be one of our great mysteries on this continent.
