RWANDA Energy Group (REG) basketball club captain Ali Kazingufu Kubwimana has praised his teammates for the team’s unbeaten run and called for the momentum to be maintained as they chase a treble this season.

Point-guard Kazingufu wants his teammates to be more determined and focused after the reigning league champions walloped United Generation Basketball (UGB) 126-81 on Friday night at Amahoro Indoor Stadium.

"I think we are having a better start than last season, thanks to players and coaching staff. However, we can’t be complacent, the goal is to win every title to compete for this season and I strongly believe in talents and abilities of our players to execute the mission,” Kazingufu said.

The Rwanda international captained Patriots to the 2016 league title before signing for REG at the end of that campaign, and will be eyeing to win a third consecutive title.

He noted that, "We need to retain the league title and the Genocide Memorial Tournament, and then add the play-off games to seal a treble this season. High ambitions require high determination; at REG we all have a shared goal, but we also understand the magnitude of the task at hand.”

Cyrille Kalima’s team are the only unbeaten side in the league this season, with a perfect 4:0 win ratio.

Going into the festive season break, REG top the league table standings with a maximum 8 points, APR are second with 6 points while IPRC-South, Patriots and Espoir occupy third, fourth and fifth place respectively, with 5 points each.
