RE: "Farmers in dilemma as potato prices drop” (The New Times, December 22).

I wonder why farmers produce surplus of potatoes in Rwanda. Plans, as told in this article, suggest that with building potato factories, Rwanda can sustainably export the surplus.

Having visited Rwanda most recently and bearing in mind those multitudes of hills in the country, I think it will always be difficult to be competitive especially thinking about harvesting. There will never be a possibility to work with heavy machinery.

As a farmer in Germany, I dream about Rwanda with its fertile soils and this wonderful climate, producing products much more valuable such as mangoes.
