Etincelles shocked defending champions Rayon Sports 1-0 on Wednesday at Umuganda Stadium. The result saw the hosts move into sixth place in the current Azam Rwanda Premier League season.

Olivier Karekezi’s guest side came on the field as favourites after two straight wins but Claude Saiba Mumbere’s lone goal in the 83rd minute saw the Rubavu-based side end the day with bragging rights.

Rayon Sports finished the game a man less after forward Djabel Manshimwe received a straight red in a 100th minute after clashing with Hakim Tuyisenge.

The defeat keeps Rayon in fifth place with 14 points while Etincelles moved into 6th with 13 points. Etincelles played without Regis Mbonyingabo.

Karekezi was initially hoping to welcome back Burundians Shassir Nahimana and Pierrot Kwizera in time for the game but the duo arrived back in the country late Tuesday.

In the other match played yesterday, Mukura beat Gicumbi 2-0 at Huye Stadium, with the goals coming from Rachid Mutebi and Kevin Hakizimana.

On Tuesday, AS Kigali came from behind to earn a point against rivals SC Kiyovu in 2-all draw at Kigali Stadium.

The result means Eric Nshimiyimana’s team top of the league table with 17 points.

Police beat Espoir 2-1 at Kamarampaka Stadium to jump into fourth with 15 points. Sunrise beat Kirehe 2-1, while Marines defeated Bugesera 2-0.
