Not another wedding!

I need a break from all these weddings. I know December is many people’s favourite month to tie the knot but I wish brides and grooms-to-be took a step back and thought about not just their special day but the other people tasked with making that day happen.

I need a break from all these weddings. I know December is many people’s favourite month to tie the knot but I wish brides and grooms-to-be took a step back and thought about not just their special day but the other people tasked with making that day happen. Let’s be honest. Your average couple counts on friends, family and even strangers to make their dream wedding happen and there’s nothing wrong with that since we all need a hand here and there but I just wish people chose better dates and by that I mean scheduling their weddings around contributor-friendly months.

I attended a wedding a couple of weeks ago and another is coming up soon and all these people want my money and it’s stressful because I have so many other commitments this time of year.

I wish they kept that in mind because I’m at a point where I’ll just give something so I don’t look bad yet if they had planned their weddings earlier on, may be I’d have given more. It’s funny because when I was younger, I loved going to weddings. Must have been because my parents paid and all I had to do was show up and enjoy some good food!

Things have changed and with growing up comes responsibilities. Weddings aren’t that much fun for me anymore especially when it means that money I had put aside for personal stuff ends ups being diverted to buying an expensive present or outfit because you don’t want to be that one guest who turns up in an "old” dress that you wore to at least three other weddings.

You can get away with a cheap wedding present though. All you have to do is wrap it up nicely but the newly-wed couple might judge you later on for that. It’s too much pressure like I said and sometimes I just wish I don’t get invited, especially if it’s not family or close friends!

I feel like some people throw weddings just for the sake of it. Like one guy I used to work with who I didn’t even know was in a serious relationship just texted me recently that he’s getting married early next year and he wants me to attend his wedding meetings.

One of those times you wish people had lost your number! I know weddings are expensive and I want to help whenever I can but the problem is that people coerce you into making a pledge and then bombard you with reminders to pay up. I’ve gotten reminders that the item I offered to cover was the only one holding the wedding party’s plans and I didn’t appreciate being hounded.

It’s cases like that which make me consider flat out saying no to the next wedding invitation I get because sometimes you just need to take care of your needs and let other people figure out theirs too. If you want my contribution, please plan better. Certainly not around Christmas or the new School Term!
