Police FC will host Rayon Sports in their rescheduled Azam Rwanda Premier League fixture on Thursday at Kicukiro Stadium seeking to win and go second on the table standing, while victory for the defending champions will take them from 11th to 5th position.

Police will go into the match in fourth place with 12 points, three points behind SC Kiyovu and APR FC, who are second and third respectively, while AS Kigali lead the table with 16 points but having played a game more (8) than both Kiyovu and Police.

Innocent Seninga’s Police FC have won three, drawn three and lost one of their seven league matches played so far, four points ahead of Rayon Sports, who won two, drew two and lost one of their five games.

"Police are very good and have been consistent this season so far, we expect a very tough game. However; our goal is to win after several weeks without playing, we need the win to boost our confidence,” said Rayon Sports head coach Olivier Karekezi.

It will be Karekezi’s first game in charge since the death of his assistant coach and former international teammate, Hamadi ‘Katauti’ Ndikumana and his (Karekezi) subsequent arrest on allegations of cybercrime last month. He was released early this month without being formerly charged.

Police said Karekezi’s arrest had no connection with his former assistant’s death, with sources claiming his arrest could have been connected to his alleged involvement in a plot to ensure the national football team, Amavubi, lost their decisive CHAN 2018 match against Ethiopia in Kigali last month.

Rwanda were held 0-0 by visitors Ethiopia in the second leg but the former qualified for the 2018 CHAN finals, thanks to their away 3-2 victory in the first leg.

However, Seninga, who is bidding to become the first man to lead Police FC to the league title said, "We know Rayon Sports quite well, and it is always tough facing them, but we have prepared for the game in the best way possible, we want to win and stay closer to the top.”

Meanwhile, SC Kiyovu will face Marines FC in another rescheduled match at Mumena stadium on Saturday, while Amagaju FC will host Rayon Sports on Sunday at Nyagisenyi Grounds.

Match day nine fixtures will then be played on December 19 until December 21. Then after match day 10 fixtures will be played on December 22-27. However, match day 11 fixtures, which were initially brought forward to late December, have been pushed to 2018.

AS Kigali top the table with 16 points, one ahead of SC Kiyovu and APR, who are third place with 15 points, Police are in third place with 12 points while Mukura complete the top five with 11 points.
