Women's football league set to start on January 20

RWANDA National Women’s Football topflight and the second division leagues will start on January 20, 2018. Times Sport has learnt. FERWAFA has asked all teams to confirm their participation for the 2018 season and acquire players’ licenses by January 8, to avoid heavy fines per additional day of delay.

RWANDA National Women’s Football topflight and the second division leagues will start on January 20, 2018. Times Sport has learnt.

FERWAFA has asked all teams to confirm their participation for the 2018 season and acquire players’ licenses by January 8, to avoid heavy fines per additional day of delay.

AS Kigali women’s football club are the reigning champions for a record ninth season since winning their debut league title in 2009. The City of Kigali-sponsored side claimed their ninth league title this October, unbeaten with a maximum 42 points, 13 points ahead of first runners-up ES Mutunda.

Kamonyi finished in third place with 27 points; Rambura in fourth slot with 22 points; Inyemera with 17 points finished fifth; Bugesera sixth with 13 points, while Gakenke and Nyagatare were 7th and 8th with six and four points respectively.

Struggling Nyagatare women’s FC were relegated from the topflight league after finishing at the bottom of the 8-team league and will be replaced by Scandanavia women’s FC who emerged champions of the second tier league.
