MUKURA Victory Sports midfielder Alex Nkomezi will be out for at least five weeks after undergoing a successful knee operation at King Faisal Hospital, Kigali on Tuesday.

The former AS Kigali star sustained a serious right knee injury on November 19 during an Azam Rwanda Premier League encounter with defending champions Rayon Sports, which ended in a 2-all draw.

In his absence, the Huye-based Black-and-Yellow outfit have recorded back to back draws; a 1-1 draw with record 16-time champions APR FC and 2-2 against newcomers Miroplast FC.

If recovery goes according to plan, the versatile Nkomezi will be back on the pitch in mid-January 2018. Until then, Mukura will have to find a way of coping without a player who was playing an integral role in keeping the club’s midfield together.

Nkomezi joined Mukura in August on a two-year contract, crossing from AS Kigali.

After eight matches, Mukura are in 5th place with 11 points from two wins and five draws. AS Kigali top the table with 16 points, one ahead of SC Kiyovu and APR FC, who are second and third respectively, while Police FC (12 points) complete the top four.
