Three hundred vulnerable people in Muhazi Sector, Rwamagana District will no longer have to worry about health insurance (Mutuelles de Sante) subscription this financial year, thanks to a donation from I&M Bank.

Speaking at the handover of the insurance cards to beneficiaries, Diana Kwarisima, the head of human resources at I&M Bank, said the donation seeks to support community programmes, especially those targeting the poor.

She added that the bank can only do well when the population is health or has easy access to medical care.

Earlier, the bank staff joined Muhazi residents in the monthly community work (umuganda) to plant trees and in preparation of materials for the construction of classrooms at Groupe Scholaire Ntsinda. Jeanne Umutoni, the Rwamagana vice-mayor in charge of social affairs, said the donation will move the sector towards total health insurance coverage.

Deborah Mukandengo, one of the beneficiaries, said the donation was "God sent” as she had failed to raise the Rwf3,000 required for the annual health insurance subscription .

"I have been waiting and hoping to get the money after the January 2018 harvest to pay health insurance. Though it’s risky without medicare cover, I had no other option,” said Mukandengo.
