RE: "Eastern Province: Governor Mufurukye roots for concerted efforts against narcotic drugs” (The New Times, November 22).

This is unbelievable; 680 kilograms of cannabis? This is too much!

I should give credit to the leadership of the Rwanda National Police and the entire force for the operations well conducted to intercept the substance.

As a concerned Rwandan citizen who understands effects of consuming and engaging in the trade of narcotic drug particularly cannabis, I should urge Rwanda National Police and grassroots leaders to put much emphasis in awareness campaigns, as an ideal approach to protect the public particularly the youth from all the dangers posed by narcotic drugs.

Some people’s minds are always disillusioned by a mindset that one will quickly get rich after investing in narcotics.

Though, this may sound lucrative to some people, I want to challenge young people or anyone who may wish to start up a business that the trade of narcotics is not a viable business plan and in fact is taboo in Rwanda, since it is considered as unlawful business according to the penal code.
