SPORTS CLUB KIYOVU stormed to the summit of the AZAM Rwanda Premier League after beating Sunrise FC 1-0 yesterday at Nyagatare turf.

Andre Casa Mbungo’s side continue their impressive form after they were relegated to the second tier but returned immediately after Isonga withdrew from the topflight football division. Kiyovu beat Sunrise FC at Nyagatare turf, thanks to the lone goal by Djuma Nizeyimana in the 14th minute, while striker Jean Claude Nizeyimana was red-carded.

The defeat saw Sunrise drop to the eighth place with eight points.

The Mumena-based side lead the table with 15 points, one ahead of APR who dropped to the second spot with 14 points after playing out a goalless draw with the Police yesterday. Police remain in fourth place with ten points. AS Kigali jumped into third place with 13 points after they thrashed Marines 4-1 at Umuganda Stadium.

At Huye Stadium, Mukura came from behind to draw 2-2 against newcomers Miroplast, and are in sixth place with ten points. After beating Kirehe 1-0, Gicumbi jumped into seventh place with nine points.

Defending champions Rayon Sports will return to action after December 10 after they requested Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) to postpone a couple of their fixtures in the wake of troubles that have afflicted the club lately, including the death of their assistant coach and club legend Hamad ‘Katauti’ Ndikumana and the arrest of head coach Olivier Karekezi in connection with cyber crimes.

Action continues today with Etincelles hosting Musanze FC at Umuganda Stadium.
