The fundraising was organised to help the diabetic kids that are undergoing treatment at Mwurire Diabetic Centre in Rwamagana.
The event tattracted students under Rotary Club from Kagarama Secondary School, Green Hills Academy and FAWE Girls School, among others.
The annual event, themed, ‘Making a difference with a talent’ was organised by the Rotary Club Natete from Uganda and Rotary Club Kigali City in partnership with Ministry of Health.
Giselle Iradukunda, the vice president of Rotary Club Kigali, said they were inspired by the need to help needy and sick children who are diabetic.
"We planned this fundraising purposely to see how diabetic children who have poor parents can get treatment, which is normally too expensive for them, so that they can continue with their studies without worrying about medication and treatment,” she said.
Tito Mugyenzi, the school counsellor and teacher at Lycée de Kigali, urged students to always help their unprivileged colleagues who have similar aspirations of studying.
Mwurire Diabetic Centre currently looks after 1,600 diabetic children and requires about Rwf700,000 per month for medication.
