Etincelles FC are flying high at the top of Azam Rwanda Premier League table standing following a 1-0 victory over Amagaju FC at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu on Sunday.

The all-important lone goal was scored by team captain Gentil Salita Kambale in the fourth minute of stoppage time (90+4) from a penalty spot to make sure Etincelles remain the only unbeaten side this season.

Emmanuel Ruremesha’s team leads the log with 9 points, same points as second-placed Police FC but the former are top, thanks to their opening day 3-1 victory against the later.

Last season, Etincelles beat Amagaju twice in the league; 2-0 in first round and 1-0 in the second round, in Nyamagabe.

The last time Etincelles topped the table was back in 2009 when they went on to finish third but later upgraded to second place after Atraco FC withdrew from the league.

Ruremesha praised his side for a near-perfect run in league so far, after two wins and three draws. Pablo Nduwimana’s Amagaju, who led the table after winning the opening two matches, have dropped to 9th following three back-to-back defeats. "We want to win more games and remain on top of the table. Our aim is to continue with the same spirit until the end of the season. We know it is going to be difficult for the next fixtures but we have to be ready for that,” Ruremesha admitted after the match.

He added, "I must congratulate my players for doing a really great job to get a great result today against a team that was determined to get something from the match.”

Elsewhere, Mukura played a goalless draw against Musanze to jump to fourth place with eight points, while Musanze are 13th with four points.

Earlier on Saturday, Kirehe FC came from behind to earn three points against new boys Miroplast FC 2-1 at Nyakarambi ground. The victory took them to 11th place with six points while Miroplast have four points in 14th position.

Miroplast took an early lead through Pekeyake Tuyisenge in the tenth minute but striker Jean Paul Uwimbabazi netted a brace, the first coming in the 50th minute and the second 20 minutes later, to seal a second win for Abdoul Karim Nduhirabandi’s team.

Sunrise FC won 1-0 against Marines thanks to a solitary first-half goal by former Rayon Sports midfielder Leon Uwambajimana to jump to 5th place with eight points.

SC Kiyovu, who beat Gicumbi FC 1-0 on Friday, dropped from second to third place also with 9 points—the win followed last weekend’s famous 1-0 triumph against APR, their first in the league for 12 years.
