Police have confirmed they have in custody seven suspects in connection with the robbery that occurred last month at Bank of Kigali’s Buhanda branch in Ruhango District.

The suspects’ files, according to police, have been forwarded to prosecution.

One person, a Bank of Kigali employee identified as Quesie Muhawenimana, was killed and three others wounded during the robbery that happened on the evening of Tuesday October 24.

Southern Region Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Gilbert Rwampungu Gumira told The New Times that the suspects could have connived with some individuals already in custody to plan the attack.

He however could not reveal the suspects’ names.

"Investigations are still being carried out for more evidence and to find out if there could be anyone else who was also involved in the robbery,” he said.

He further said that security at Buhanda has now been reinforced to curtail crime in the area.

Gumira called on residents to continue working together with security organs to combat crime, and alert them if they suspect something unlawful.

The attack that was made around 6pm in the evening was carried out mainly by three men who stormed it wearing military fatigues and trotting guns.

In a statement the day after the incident, BK said the Buhanda branch had been closed temporarily to facilitate investigation, and re-opened a week after the attack.
