Local leaders, including Northern Province Governor, Jean Marie Vianney Gatabazi, also participated in the communal work. Later, Tigo staff also donated Rwf1.5 million for health insurance (Mutuelle de Santé) for 500 vulnerable residents of Cyanika and Ruhunde sectors, who were unable to afford health care, according to a statement from the telecom firm.
The beneficiaries received their medical insurance cards in Cyanika sector, the firm said in the statement. The donation is part of ongoing efforts to ensure a better life for the most vulnerable Rwandans, according to Tigo chief executive officer, Philip Amoaoteng.
"As a company working in Rwanda, we believe that it is our responsibility to take care of the most vulnerable among us and that is why we are pleased that 500 vulnerable people now will have access to health care,” he said.
Tigo has so far paid Mutuelle de Sante for 1,266 vulnerable from Burera, Bugesera and Ngoma districts this year.
