RE: "Itorero Commission wants civic education to start with 6-year-olds” (The New Times, October 25).

Civic education to children between 6 and 9 years will contribute towards the zero genocide ideology target.

As Jean-Jacques Rousseau said, "Man is naturally kind, only the society alters him’’. This means that our children are born kind but are changed with what we impart to them. If we happen to see children of younger age exhibiting genocide ideology, it is because we, as parents, do not teach them values and norms of humanity, but we rather intoxicate them with genocide ideology.

Thus, if we have the chance to get our children fed with norms and values at early age, I hopefully believe that they will be able to denounce whoever might tend to impart genocide ideology to them.

Let us all as parents nurture positive values and norms to our offspring to shape future quality Rwandans who will be ready to stand against whoever may tend to instill genocide ideology among them. Let us shape a brighter future to bequest to future generations. Let’s all stand against genocide ideology and say "No room for genocide ideology, now and forever”.
