Rwanda face Morocco for 5th place at Men’s African Volleyball Championships

Rwanda will today play against Morocco for the 5th place as the 2017 Men’s African Volleyball Championships comes to a conclusion on Sunday at Cairo Stadium Complex in Egypt.

Rwanda will today play against Morocco for the 5th place as the 2017 Men’s African Volleyball Championships comes to a conclusion on Sunday at Cairo Stadium Complex in Egypt.

The top three teams at African Championships qualify to represent the continent at next year’s World Championships. The 2018 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship will be co-hosted by Italy and Bulgaria from September 10 to 30.

Rwanda beat Libya 3-2 (25-19, 25-18, 12-25, 24-26 and 15-13) on Friday night, while Morocco defeated the Democratic Republic of Congo 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-16 and 25-20).

Paul Bitok’s team was knocked out in the quart-finals after losing 3-0 against hosts and title favourites Egypt after they had finished second in Group D behind Algeria.

Meanwhile, Egypt and Tunisia, who have booked their World Championship tickets, as the two major African powerhouses set to contest in the title match the for the 11th time in the competition’s history.

Both Egypt and Tunisia have 8 titles under their name with Egypt gaining the last 6 trophies.

Tunisia fought aggressively for more than 2 hours to overcome Algeria 3-2 (25-27, 25-14, 21-25, 25-23, and 17-15) in the first semi-final while Egypt upset Cameroon in the second semi, 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, and 25-23).

In the play-off for 9th to 12th places, Kenya overwhelmed Chad 3-0 (25-20, 25-21 and 25-20), whereas Ghana defeated Botswana 3-0 (26-24, 25-21 and 25-22). Nigeria outclassed their neighbors Niger 3-0 (26-24, 25-15 and 25-20) to finish 13th, as Niger concluded last in 14th.
