More than 20 beauty companies from the East African region will showcase their products and services at the first ever hair and beauty expo in the country. Dubbed the ‘Kigali Natural Hair and Beauty’ expo, the two-day event will take place November 3-4 at The Manor Hotel in Nyarutarama.

It is the first event dedicated exclusively to showcasing the beauty of hairstyles in Rwanda. It is organised by the Kigali-based Marina Bella Natural Hair Salon. The event draws top natural hair companies and distributors from across the region. Leading natural hair experts will offer free workshops on natural hair care and maintenance.

The event is divided into two categories; a hair expo at which a variety of hair care and beauty products will be showcased, including the most trending women’s hairstyles, and a natural hair show.

The hair expo will run on both days of the expo from 8a.m to 6p.m and admission is free to the public.

On November 4, the hair expo will run from 8a.m to 6p.m, giving way to the natural hair show.

Admission to the natural hair show is Rwf10,000 and 15,000 (VIP). The winner of the natural hair show will walk away with a return air ticket to the Kenyan coastal city of Mombasa, courtesy of RwandAir, who are the main sponsors.

Models will be dressed by top fashion brands and fashion houses in Kigali like Mr. Price, Rwanda Clothing, Uzi Collections, and Delphinz Collection, among others. Speaking at a news conference ahead of the event in Nyarutarama on Wednesday, Alexanderia Haidara, the organiser of the beauty expo, explained that the need to professionalise the local beauty industry is what inspired the idea for the expo.

The event will further be spiced up by various performances including music, traditional drumming, poetry, rap, and a kids’ performance.

"This will be a networking opportunity for the various beauty companies that are participating in the expo. We hope to make it an annual event, and not limited to only East Africa but the entire African continent,” Haidara said.
