"We want to have a better event than previously. We started preparations early enough and we believe we will be able to have a wonderful race. We believe the competition will be high and precious than what we have organised before,” Gakwaya said on Thursday.
The annual two-day event, which is part of the National Rally Championship, is held in memory of the late Claude Gakwaya, one of the best Rwandan rally drivers, who passed away in a motor accident in 1986.
A total 14 crews, including five from Rwanda, six from Uganda and three from Burundi have registered for the event.
On the first day, the drivers will be flagged off on Saturday afternoon in Huye town and will do a transverse twice from Rango- Gisagara, Butare-Save where they will run 3 times.
The night stage will see drivers compete from Rango and Rwasave twice. The first day event will cover 125km.
The second day, on Sunday, the drivers will start from Save-Rango to Shyanda where they will run four times before the trophy-awarding and closing ceremony in the evening.
Burundi’s Mohamed Roshanali and his navigator Jean Jeans Giesen won last year edition, which ended in controversial circumstances.
