Female officer trained in Rwanda appointed minister in Liberia

Brig Gen Geraldine Janet George, has been appointed the minister of defence in her country.

Brig Gen Geraldine Janet George, a female Liberian military officer who studied some of her courses in Rwanda, has been appointed the minister of defence in her country.

George studied a "Company Commander Course” at Rwanda Military Academy, Gako.

She is a career soldier with extensive military experience. Prior to her appointment as minister of defence, she served as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of Liberia.

She has also served in various other posts in the Armed Forces of Liberia, including as: Acting Commander, 23rd Infantry Brigade; Military Police Company Commander, 23rd Infantry Brigade; Brigade S-5, CIMIC Officer, 23rd Infantry Brigade; Provost Marshal, 23rd Infantry Brigade; Legal Officer, Armed Forces of Liberia Headquarters, and Acting Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS).

She holds a Master of Arts Degree in International Relations from Webster University, in the USA; and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from the African Methodist Episcopal Zion University College, in Monrovia.
