Families should take a firm stand against sexual violence

RE: "Twelve-year-old’s journey to recovery from sexual abuse” (The New Times, October 13).

I appreciate Rwanda National Police's efforts in educating citizenry to report about such inhuman acts. The arrest of this man indicates that people's mindset about such unlawful acts have completely changed as opposed to a while back when such cases would go unreported due to such factors as fear that, once reported, the family would be divided, among others.

The arrest of the suspect again clearly shows that communities could become crime-free once the public embrace the culture of reporting those suspected to be involved in criminal activities.

Life in prison! A welcome verdict...But whatever happened to the auntie who, clearly out of fear, was an accomplice throughout the little girl’s ordeal?
