Jean d’Amour Twiringiyima, the fourth motorcycle winner in the ongoing Airtel Tunga promotion, plans to start a moto taxi business to expand his income streams.

The 30-year-old farmer and a resident of Ngoma District said the money from the business would supplement his income from farming activities and improve his living standards.

He added that he will initially hire a rider to operate it as he takes driving lessons.

"The money from this business will also support my farming projects and cater for my basic needs,” said Twiringiyima while receiving the motorcycle from the telecom firm’s marketing and communications manager, Lillian Munganyinka, at the Airtel Service Centre in Kimironko, Gasabo District.

The farmer invested Rwf130,000 in the promotion that he used to send text messages. "Whenever you send text messages they award you points, and by the time I was announced winner I had spent Rwf130,000,” he says.

How to participate

To participate in the promotion, Airtel customers can send an SMS with the digit ‘1’ to 155, follow prompts and answer the questions. One can alternatively call 155 to follow the instructions. Either way, a customer needs to answer the questions to earn points.

For each right response, the customer gets 100 points while a wrong one gets a consolation 50 points.

Each text message costs Rwf100.
