Rwandans simply spoilt for choice

Rwandans can only be described as simply being spoilt for choice, when it comes to the fast growing business sector. The recent duel between Rwandatel and MTN Rwanda in showcasing their products as each GSM service provider tries to woo as many customers, is testimony of this. Only last weekend, Rwandatel at the launch of its GSM and 3G networks thousands of excited revelers were treated to a mega show at which none other Jamaican musician Sean Paul performed. He had rumba star Kofi Olomide, among other prominent musicians from the region to perfom with. Today, none other than Mr Bombastic, reggae artist Shaggy, will be in town. To give a live concert in celebration of MTN Rwanda’s tenth anniversary.

Now, given last weekends atmosphere set by Sean Paul and other musicians who simply painted the town red, many wait to see what show Shaggy is going to treat them to, this weekend. This how it should be. An enabling environment that allows for competition and growth.

MTN Rwanda is celebrating ten years of continuous growth enjoying slightly over a million subscribers. Now the friendly competition between Rwandatel and MTN Rwanda, symbolises the country’s economic growth and vibrancy.

They will not only compete over the performers they can attract from any corner of the world, totheir customers enjoyment. the stage is set for their competition over who gives the best tariffs and best services.

In another development still on Rwanda’s flourishing business industry, Kenyan chain store Nakumatt, another new kid on the block, scooped a runners-up slot for its ‘Most innovative new concepts for supermarkets/neighbourhood stores’ category.

In recognition of its regional expansion strategy in Kigali City. The supermarket scooped this prestigious global award for the strategy showcased in the opening of the Kigali branch. Getting this award does not mean Nakumatt rests on its laurels, not with Simba supermarket just across the street.

The business world is fast moving. Consumers are demanding hi-tech quality products. You snooze they say you lose, that is the mood prevailing in Rwanda’s business environment.

Government plays its role in setting enabling policy for those who want to invest to do so and to compete with other players.

The benefits for Rwanda are many, apart from a fast growing economy, revenue collected, jobs are also created. What more can any country wish for, but to spoil its citizens for choice, and enjoy the benefits.
