Handball: Bagirishya names APR squad for Champions League preps

Group A: Esperance (Tunisia), Caiman (Congo-Brazzaville), FAP (Cameroon), APR (Rwanda)

Group B: Zamalek (Egypt), W. Samara (Morocco), Red Star (Ivory Coast), Phoenix (Gabon), Ettihad (Libya)

Group C: Al Ahly (Egypt), Hammamet (Tunisia), Fanz (Cameroon), HC Oca (DRC), Al Ahly (Libya)

APR Handball Club head coach, Anaclet Bagirishya has named a 20-man provisional squad to start residential camp preparations ahead of this year’s African Handball Champions League.

The 39th edition of the annual continental tournament is scheduled for October 19-31 in Hammamet, Tunisia. The two-week long showpiece will be contested by a total  of 14 clubs from 10 countries.

Rwandan league champions APR, who will be making their maiden appearance at the continent’s biggest club championship, have been drawn in the Group A, along with hosts and favourites Esperance de Tunis, FAP Yaoundé of Cameroon and Caiman of the Republic of Congo.

The 2013 champions, Esperance reached the 2016 final, only to lose 26-23 to Al Ahly of Egypt in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

APR will start residential camp on Sunday in Kimisagara and will hold double training sessions daily at Amahoro National Stadium.
