AZAM Rwanda Premier League champions, Rayon Sports defeated league rivals Etincelles FC 2-0 to win first edition of FEZA Cup on Wednesday afternoon at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu.

FEZA Bet, a sports betting company, sponsors both clubs. The game was organized to launch the partnership ahead of the 2017/2018 season, which is scheduled to kick-off on September 29.

Burundian international Pierrot Kwizera, who came on as a 28th substitute for Francois Mugisha, opened the scoring in the 74th minute after several missed goal chances from both sides. He scored from an assist by his compatriot Bonfils Caleb Bimenyimana.

Olivier Karekezi’s side pushed for more goals and the second arrived in the 82nd minute through Amavubi midifielder Djabel Manishimwe. Manishimwe also came on as a second-half substitute for Nova Bayama.

Assistant coach Hamad ‘Katauti’ Ndikumana was in charge of the 9-time league champions for the game against Etincelles in absentia of head coach Karekezi. The inaugural FEZA Cup trophy came with a cash prize of Rwf2.5million.

It is the second trophy for Rayon Sports in a space of less than seven days after beating traditional archrivals APR FC 1-0 to win Agaciro Development Fund Cup last Saturday at Amahoro National Stadium.

On Saturday, Rayon Sports and APR will again face-off in the Super Cup clash at Umuganda Stadium where the winner will walk away with Rwf5 million. The game will serve as a curtain-raiser for the 2017/18 league season.
