Azam Rwanda Premier League club Sports Club Kiyovu have signed Ugandan striker Benson Rahim Ociti from Kenyan side Chemelil Sugar FC on a two-year contract.

The 24-year-old striker has previously played at Police FC, Uganda Revenue Authority and Soana FC, all in the Ugandan Premier League.

Ociti becomes SC Kiyovu’s eighth signing of this transfer window, which closed on Friday for foreign players. He joins Janvier Bonane and Aime Placide Uwineza from Isonga FC.

The other new signings include; Jean Pierre Maombi from Musanze, experienced midfielder Fabrice Mugheni from Rayon Sports, Espoir FC’s Ally Mbogo s as well as Innocent ‘Di Maria’ Habyarimana and Jean Paul Uwihoreye from Police FC.

SC Kiyovu will start their league campaign against Musanze FC on October 1 before playing against champions Rayon Sports the following weekend.

The club Spokesperson, Omar Munyengabe, said they believe the new players will help the team to raise the bar next season and avoid being involved in the relegation dog-fight as was the case last term.

"It’s important to strengthen our team in preparation for a tough battle next season. We have signed talented players and expect to make more signings before the end of next month,” Munyengabe said.

He revealed that, "We also wanted to sign his compatriot Fred Kyambadde, but he didn’t pass the test, so we dropped our interest and let him go.”

SC Kiyovu started pre-season training on August 15 under new coach Andre Casa Mbungo, who signed a two year-deal.

SC Kiyovu were relegated from the topflight division for the first time in their 53-year history after finishing second from bottom in the 16-team league table but they have since bounced back to the league, replacing Isonga FC, who turned down a chance to play in the top division.

To sign Ociti, Kiyovu beat off stiff competition from Etincelles, AS Kigali and Police FC, who had all expressed interest in the big forward.

Nyamirambo-based Kiyovu will play a pre-season friendly against league rivals Etincelles, Mukura and Bugesera FC.
