RE: "Unlocking the potential in fishing industry” (The New Times, September 13). Very insightful. Just running some quick numbers, it appears that fish imports in Rwanda amount to at least US$45 million per year. If we can increase the local production, it will be much better for us.

We will need to understand more from RAB (Rwanda Agriculture Board) about the requirements so large-scale private sector investment can take place: concession areas available, any studies available on consumption trends, any incentives for investors in the fishing sector, how is the sub-sector being marketed? I am sure private sector can step in more if the numbers add up.
