Livestock, fisheries need own docket

Editor, RE: Rwanda’s young cabinet of technocrats” (The New Times, September 11). This is interesting. I think that the major problem is the inappropriate combination within the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources with the same difficult combination at the Rwanda Agriculture Board (RAB). Editor,

This sector is not supported, except for the presidential initiative of the Girinka which has improved, considerably, the livelihood of many Rwandans.

We need two different ministries and two institutions supporting both sectors for better results. We should expect an increase in the contribution of livestock toward the country’s GDP – at least from the current 12 per cent to 30 per cent in five years, if the sector is well supported.
