Pesticides worth USD 1 million are en-route to Accra, Ghana from Kigali.

This is Horizon Group’s first consignment of pesticides export.

The consignment comprised 10,000 litres of the 5EW Pesticide that is made by the company.

The product is made from a key botanical insecticide active ingredient ‘pyrethrum Pale Extract, containing pyrethrins, from pyrethrum flowers grown by local farmers and processed locally by the horizon SOPYRWA, a subsidiary of Horizon Group Ltd.

Eugene Haguma, the CEO of Horizon Group Ltd said that this is a milestone for their company and Rwanda as well.

"This is something to celebrate,” Haguma said, adding that being at the forefront of value-added pesticides and providing solutions to common pests that threatened agriculture and veterinary output is quite something.

"We are not only satisfying the local market but expanding to foreign markets with initial focus on regional and African markets,” he added.

Horizon got what they call a good deal in Ghana.

"The fact that our products are being praised for high quality standard gives us confidence,” Haguma said.

Claire Akamanzi, the Rwanda Development Board CEO acknowledged the achievement.

"I want to congratulate Horizon Group Ltd for the intra- African trade initiative. This means more money for the country. It is also a promotion of made-in-Rwanda. We want to encourage such ventures,” Akamanzi said.
