Editor,

RE: "'Liberal democracy' Vs the Rwandan people, who won?” (The New Times, August 19).

The so called Western media never uttered a word about an impending genocide in Rwanda even after General Romeo Dallaire, head of the UN peacekeeping force, warned the world about the lurking pogroms.

They never criticised a one-party draconian rule by French- and Belgian-supported regimes who guided the rulers through several experimental genocides against the Tutsi in 1959/63/73/92 in preparation for the mother of the fastest genocide in history.

Rwanda is now a multi-party democracy based on "dialogue’, "consensus”, "forum of political organizations”, "unity”, "cohesion” and other words aimed at fostering national togetherness.

These homegrown solutions are working for us excellently. If it sends a chill down their sorry spines that this alternative path leads to true independence and growth of Africa, let them understand that this is indeed a hurricane wave they cannot stop, but only need to wait and pick up the pieces when it has run its course.
