Sugira pens one-year deal with APR FC

RWANDA international Ernest Sugira has ended the speculation surrounding his future by joining Peace Cup holders APR FC on a one-year contract.The 26-year-old striker joined the record 15-time league champions on Thursday, two weeks after being released by the Democratic Republic of Congo side, AS Vita Club.Sugira signed for AS Vita Club following his impressive performances for Amavubi during the 2016 African Cup of Nations (CHAN) finals tournament held in Rwanda.DRC beat Amavubi 2-1 in extra time in the quarter-finals before the Leopards went on to win the tournament for the second time.Sugira returns to APR for a second spell having been let go by the military side to join AS Kigali two years ago. He went on to shine for Eric Nshimiyimana’s team, which earned him big money move to Vita Club.Sugira confirmed his move to APR, but declined to disclose details of his contract. "I am happy to be back at APR FC. I signed a one year deal which is all I can tell you now.”Sugira had been in talks with a number of local clubs, including league champions Rayon Sports and the 2013 Peace Cup winners, AS Kigali.During his one-year stint at AS Vita Club, Sugira played 14 games in all competitions and scored 8 goals, an average of 0.57 goals per game.Following his incredible performance at last year’s CHAN where he netted 3 goals out of 5 goals that Rwanda scored at the continental showpiece, Sugira signed for Florent Ibenge’s AS Vita Club in  a reported US$130,000 (about Rwf102.7m) transfer fee and has been earning Rwf4 million per month.editorial@newtimes.co.rw
