Team Rwanda ‘ready’ for Colorado Classic

RWANDA national cycling team, also known as Team Rwanda, has stepped up preparations for the Colorado Classic scheduled for August 10-13 in the United States.

Aug. 10Stage 1, Colorado Springs – 93.5 miles (150.4km)

Aug. 11Stage 2, Breckenridge – 64 miles (103km)

Aug. 12Stage 3, Denver’s RiNo Art District - Peak to Peak Highway – 81 miles (130km)

Aug. 13Stage 4, Denver’s RiNo and City Park – 74.6 miles (120.1km)

RWANDA national cycling team, also known as Team Rwanda, has stepped up preparations for the Colorado Classic scheduled for August 10-13 in the United States.

According to head coach, Sterling Magnell, Jean Claude Uwizeye who got injured during the Cascade Cycling Classic, has recovered and will be ready for the four-stage 2.HC UCI category race, which will cover a total distance of 503.5km.

The 6-man roster accompanied Magnell and his assistant Felix Sempoma, has been in US since July 14 where they took part in the Cascade Classic on July 19-23.

According to news from the camp, Sempoma is in charge of the team and will lead the riders through the Colorado Classic.

In a telephone interview with Sunday Sport, Magnell disclosed that, "The riders are doing well in training and have picked important lessons from the Cascade Classic that will come in handy at the forthcoming Colorado Classic next week.”

He added,” Jean Claude is back to full training with the team after the injury from Cascade Classic. This competition is going to be an amazing experience for our riders. None of them has ever been to such a race before.”

The team includes; reigning national champion Gasore Hategeka, Jean Claude Uwizeye (silver medalist in the U23 category at 2016 African Continental Championships), the 2015 Tour du Rwanda champion, Jean Bosco Nsengimana, Bonaventure Uwizeyimana as well as Rene Jean Paul Ukiniwabo and Didier Munyaneza.

The prestigious event will attract UCI World Tour teams, UCI Professional Continental Teams and UCI Continental Teams with Team Rwanda, the only national team taking part in the four-stage race.
