Kigali Fashion Week (KFW) is arguably one of the biggest fashion events in the country. It brings together outstanding local and regional designers, as well as models.

Three months ago, the seventh edition of the event was hosted at the Kigali Serena Hotel, and was graced by designers from Sweden, Japan, USA, Canada, Ghana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Uganda and Burundi.

After the seventh edition, organisers announced that the next edition would be taken to a global stage.

According to John Bunyeshuli, the founder of KFW, the next edition is about showcasing ‘Made in Rwanda’ to the world.

"We are interested in showcasing ‘Made in Rwanda’ products to the entire world. With Kigali Fashion Week Europe, we shall take some of Rwanda’s leading designers and models to display their products,” he noted.

He said that they expect to take about six designers and three models to the anticipated event which is slated to take place in Brussels, Belgium on November 24 to 25.

"On July 27, we had a meeting with the Rwandan ambassador to Belgium about promoting ‘Made in Rwanda’ and we are partnering with the embassy. Local designers and models will collaborate with those living in the Diaspora for a big event,” he said.

Through the exposure of Rwandan talent and its unique products, Bunyeshuli thinks that connections will be made and potential partnerships will also be created between locals and international designing and modeling agencies.

"We are going to showcase everything from talent, clothes, shoes, food, beverages, dances and everything that Rwanda has to offer. We shall also have workshops where locals will meet international participants,” he noted.

Organisers anticipate that the event will attract more than 5000 guests across Europe.
