Unity is a key ingredient of national development, Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Charles Karamba, Rwanda’s envoy to Ethiopia said as Rwandans observed the 30th National Heroes Day on Saturday, February 5 in Addis Ababa.

He spoke of the deep-rooted history of heroism in Rwandans and called on the community to uphold the values of Rwandan heroism wherever they are.

"Rwandan unity is a key ingredient of our national development. As we remember our heroes we continue to remain connected to our country and the government led by Paul Kagame who has restored dignity and put our country to the current development trajectory,” Karamba said.
He reminded the Rwandan community in Ethiopia to remain steadfast in upholding Rwandan values.

The National Heroes Day celebration in Ethiopia was held at the embassy’s premises and attended by more than 150 Rwandans.
The event was held in a setting that resonated with the Rwandan culture. The Rwandan community in Ethiopia also conducted elections for its new Executive Committee.
Richard Hakizimana, the newly elected chairperson of the Rwandan community in Ethiopia, commended the community for their support and their contribution to the country’s development.
He promised to keep the community united and urged them to rally behind Rwandan government policies.
The event was graced by some Rwandan regional and international officials based in Addis including Monique Nsanzabaganwa, Deputy Chairperson of the African Union, Amb. Claver Gatete, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission of Africa (UNECA), Diane Sayinzoga, Representative of UNCTAD Regional Office for Africa, and Thérèse Poirier of UNAIDS.
In their remarks, they all recalled Rwanda’s achievements and commended its excellent leadership for the past 30 years.
They emphasised the need to stand tall and remain deeply rooted in Rwandans’ shared values.
The youth were called on to always work hard to represent Rwanda in all.
