An exhibition featuring twenty-five (25) art pieces by local artists will take place at the Inganzo Art Center in Masaka on July 22.

Dubbed Ubugeni Bugema Umugani, the one-day exhibition will begin at 2p.m. It will include visual artworks, Rwandan proverbs and poems- all in one piece.

The artists participating in the event are Crista Uwase, Paul Mugisha, Epa Binamungu, and Jean de Dieu Nsanzabera, the poet.

Binamungu, the founder of Inganzo Art Gallery, said the event will showcase the works of extraordinary artists, while reminding people of the importance of Kinyarwanda proverbs in the Rwandan culture through visual art.

The veteran visual artist added that the purpose of the project is to revive the social functions and effects of proverbs on morality in the Rwandan society.

"As we may know, most people have forgotten about some of our cultural norms like telling each other our proverbs especially among the youth. And what is unfortunate is a number of them do not know even the meanings of these proverbs that they hear,” said Binamungu.

According to the organisers, guests will be able to rediscover folk wisdom and also have the opportunity to learn a lot from viewing the art works, since the paintings will be visually depicting ways in which social relationships were built.
